LimbBo Arms and Bike Adaptations

Helpful Adaptations

One of the first decisions that we made as a charity was that we would not charge for any of our devices. It is thanks to the generosity of many of our supporters and volunteers in giving up their time and expertise for free to help us by fundraising that this is possible.

If your child is struggling with something specific then please get in touch we may be able to help or put you in touch with someone who can. Don’t forget we have our parents’ group on Facebook where you can ask others for advice.

Bike Adaptation

The LimbBo bike adaptation was designed by Adam. It is 3D printed and can be fully customised to fit a child’s arm. The ability to ride a bike is one of the joys of childhood and although this bike adaptation is a simple concept it makes a huge difference to children in terms of balance and confidence.

How To Get A Bike Adaptation

If you would like a bike adaptation for your child there are various stages to get you into our order book.

  • We need a photograph of your child’s arm to check that one of our devices will be suitable…

IF one of our devices will work we need to know if a standard one is good for you OR if we need you to take measurements for us to make a customised one.

  • Once we have sorted our which type of bike adaptation, any measurements and whether it is for a right or left hand, all we need then is a name and address and we can put you into our order book.

Simple as that! We just ask that you share a photograph of your child on their bike to add to our ‘Board of Smiles’ in our ‘Office’

If you have you own 3D printer Adam has made these files free for parents and families to print their own.

One of our Partner charities ‘Koalaa’ who you can find on our charity partners page has a new tool for their soft prosthetics called the ‘Sarah Tool’ which is ideal for use when riding bikes.

3D Printed Arms

When Tommy was a few months old he was ‘fitted with an NHS prosthetic. You can see a photograph of these here with Tommy and Kobi wearing theirs – and the 3d printed versions.

We felt that these were covering up his limb difference and we wanted to celebrate it not hide it. Greg Lynch who is the dad of a limb different child himself very kindly made Tommy a 3D printed Buzz Lightyear arm and put us in touch with Team Unlimbited.

Team Unlimbited are simply awesome and mentored us through buying 3D printers, sharing their designs and guiding us through the process of becoming a registered charity. Adam did all of our printing until recently, but we now have Matt Wrigley who is an ambassador and helps out with the printing of these arms. The child can choose their design and the response to these colourful and fun adaptations has been amazing – there is even one in the  British Science museum Team UnLimbited features in the London Science Museum! — Team UnLimbited
